Room for Grief

Grief, Gratitude, and Belonging

Grief is not a problem to be solved, but an experience to be witnessed. Grief, when shared, becomes a bridge that connects us rather than a burden that isolates us; and offers an opportunity for finding authentic healing. We will speak from personal experience, listen with curiosity, and honor different ways of responding to grief.

We will ground ourselves, share what brings us to the space, as well as what we are taking with us as we leave. As our monthly gatherings evolve, participants and community members will be invited to share the particular gifts and skills they have to offer this collective experience of grief. This may include singing, movement, breath work, and other embodied practices.

Participants are welcome to bring something to add to the altar that represents their experience of grief.

Paula Williams will hold the space for these peer-led gatherings. Paula is a long-time member of the Northland community having first come to the area in the late 90’s to live and work with the Loaves and Fishes community, then moving to a nearby farm in 2000 where she tried her hand as a flower farmer and hosted gatherings in the big red dairy barn. Motherhood settled her in to life in the country, until she moved back to Duluth in 2024. Paula has worked as a life coach for over 20 years, pivoting to therapy in May. She has been imagining this kind of monthly grief gathering for years and is grateful to Halcyon House for the opportunity to gather in its unique space.

Songfield

Songfield is a gathering space for singing rooted in relational presence. We connect through song, embodiment, and relational mindfulness practices, inviting a more conscious music making experience to deepen our aliveness as we play and create in the group field.

We learn simple songs together, including folk, traditional, spiritual, chant, and we allow space for organic musical expression. We explore how becoming more present and attuned to our bodies and with one another can enhance our singing with more truthful expression, love, passion, and a fuller spectrum of our humanness.

While we practice together, we also focus on the quality of connection between us, drawing closer to what matters as we cultivate and nourish the ground of relationship from which our singing arises.

What a Songfield Gathering Includes

·        Warming up our voices and bodies.

·        Learning and singing songs together.

·        Relational Fielding practices supporting attunement, authenticity, connection, and coherence.

·        More singing!

·        Guided healing integration when processes arise organically

·        Group reflections.

Songfield is facilitated by Adam Sippola, with a flexible structure that leaves room for inspiration and improvisation.

Why Singing Together Matters

There is a profound beauty and magic that can emerge when we sing together – a meeting of matter and spirit, where vibration carries the soul’s impulse from emanation to manifestation in a poetic offering of collective heart and voice. When the atmosphere of our artistry is infused with relational presence, music has the potential to become a healing transmission, remembering us into greater wholeness.

You are invited to come as you are. All experience levels are welcome. Our focus is honest expression and presence over performance and entertainment. Come play, explore, grow, and sing together!

*You do not need to know how to read music to participate

Tea Talks

Presence: Gateway to Healing and Awakening

Presence is the conscious devotion to be with the movements of life. Where inner presence is the cultivation of awareness, living stillness, and flow within the body, in relational presence we commit to a moment-by-moment conscious relationship with the forces of creation alive and moving within us, between us, and among us in the shared group field.

We will explore the relationship between presence and the healing of trauma – our unintegrated past, and how inner and relational presence practices can support our embodiment (incarnation), as well as our awakening (transcendence).

In this interactive discussion and experience, Adam will lead the group in relational presence practices including meditation, interoception, embodiment, attunement, and relational mindfulness, and he may guide an integration process if anyone present feels called to participate.
